At present, bonded windows are the most cost efficient way of vehicle glazing. This initially reduces the purchase price of a vehicle.
Further investment such as prolonged idle times for repairs, which are necessary for process-sure bonding, usually are disregarded. Process-sure bonding requires: tempered, dust-free work spaces, sufficient humidity, trained personnel and the storage of glues with limited shelf-life and further resources. These requirements often constitute large inconveniences for many public transportation services.
Ever increasing damages caused by vandalism such as the scratching of window panes mean increasing costs for replacements. For financial reasons, a replacement of the glazing is often waived. The result: the vehicle – a figurehead for the town – is employed with scratched windows over a long period of time.
