Working together for
best results
In daily use, the connection between the articulation system and the vehicle chassis must withstand punishing forces – uneven streets, braking and centrifugal forces, ascents and descents are just some of the stresses this connection is subjected to.
To ensure that our articulation system connections meet the most demanding conditions, our development process includes comprehensive calculations and strength tests. Together with our customers, we prepare detailed FE models in the IDEAS format. Following this, all prototypes are tested with force applications to assess their suitability for real-world use in everyday applications. This way we can detect weak points early in the process and develop the best possible proposals for improvement.
Depending on customer wishes, our consulting can continue to include the preparation of a complete connection design – for example in the form of a single part, a complete assembly, or a 3D modeling (CATIA V5).
Our testing process
1. Strength tests with FEM calculations
On the basis of load data and data from our worldwide use measurements, we determine the ideal connection of the articulation system to the chassis together with our customers. We model the articulation connection design in a 3D system.
We map out all customer requirements for actual vehicle use on the basis of FEM (finite element method) calculations. With this approach we can best reach agreement and be sure that our developments meet all of the necessary demands. The analysis and documentation of the allowable loads on the system have the highest priority.
2. Preparation of a concept for the connection design of front and rear vehicle segments
On the basis of the load data and our worldwide measurements, we determine the best connection of the articulation segment to the vehicle chassis. So that a clear picture of our proposals is available to all concerned parties, we typically prepare a 3-D modeling (CATIA V5) of the articulation connection design. This helps to ensure that our solutions correspond exactly to the requirements and specifications of the customer.
3. Measurement test runs to determine stresses
To verify the computer-based calculations, we make use of test runs under real conditions. By subjecting the chassis to the relevant load cases, we can see how reliably our product is integrated with the chassis. At parts of the connection that are subjected to particularly high stress, we attach sensors and compare these data with the results of the FEM calculation. After that we determine the real stresses that occur with test runs. In this way we guarantee the highest degree of quality and safety.
